Our first week with acrylics has seen us creating an array of jugs and vases that are just bursting with personality! We’ve been inspired by a mid-century theme to explore simple composition, bold shapes and textured backgrounds.

Our new artists absolutely moved mountains today in their first session with watercolour! From learning key techniques to mastering the important water-to-paint ratio, they’ve wrapped up the lesson by painting these marvellous monochrome mountains.

This week we say hello to oil pastels! We’ve been fragmenting an ordinary coffee pot and turned it into a wonderful collection of vibrant, cubist artworks.

The last week of drawing sees us experimenting with charcoal pencil techniques to create lots of lovely curls and tendrils.. observing the way hair clumps together to capture the natural flow and texture. And our new artists have gone from understanding body proportions and gesture drawing, to the basics of portraiture.

Taking inspiration from the iconic Tin Man, this session was all about learning to depict the gleam of polished metal surfaces with graphite pencils. From delicate heart lockets to tankards and the Tin Man himself, we have plenty of super shiny masterpieces!

There was lots of deep concentration in class this week.. learning all about perspective and enlarging is serious business! Our beginners have truly risen to the challenge to produce these outstanding owls and horses.
