SPRING season - January to April (2026 fully booked)
SUMMER season - April to July (2026 fully booked)
AUTUMN season - September to December
Weeks 1, 2 and 3
This module gives you some interesting projects that will serve as a good foundation for the rest of the course. Beginners start with an introduction to working with pencils and the basic techniques of drawing and shading. We then go on to study various subjects including perspective, enlarging, figures and faces. By the end of the drawing module you will be looking at things in a new way – the way an artist would!
Weeks 4 and 5
A bright, colourful, exciting module that will have you creating superb results. During your 2 weeks with oil pastels you will learn how to use this vibrantly coloured medium through interesting step by step projects. Building on the drawing techniques learnt in the previous module, you will soon know how to use colour and introduce depth into your pictures.
Weeks 6, 7 and 8
A very popular medium and easy to use once you know how. By the end of this module you will have learnt how to prepare your paper, mix colours, and use brush techniques with this semi-transparent medium. In doing so, you will have created at least 2 beautiful paintings to be proud of!
Weeks 9, 10, 11 and 12
A versatile, easy medium to use, making it extremely suitable for new artists. The gradual progressive tuition throughout the course will have allowed your skill levels to increase substantially by this stage. You will now be able to comfortably complete paintings during this module, and should find the experience of painting with acrylics both enjoyable and achievable.
Mounting and Presenting
Week 13
This week we have a relaxed session where you have time to look through the artwork you’ve created through the season, reflect on your progress and chat with your fellow artists. After deciding together which pictures to display in the exhibition, you will be guided through the process of putting a paper mount on your artworks for a perfect presentation.
We also cover the art of cutting a bevelled edge mount, and you will gain a few framing hints and tips on how to give your work a professional finish.
Exhibition
Week 14
This is something extra no other art classes offer – your very own exhibition. It is a great learning experience and a very special day. Over these last few weeks you and your new friends have created your very own portfolios each containing several pieces of original artwork, and your favourite pieces are now mounted, ready for exhibiting.
Your family and friends are all invited to attend and join in the party. What better way to celebrate everything you have achieved over the past three and a half months!
